“Mira” comes by her name with quite a story. While her mom was visiting with her dad in northern Wisconsin (i.e., breeding), I took my parents’ ashes to northern Minnesota to a river on the Sawbill Trail that my family and I spent summers on a boulder eating fresh blueberries and ice cream …. 55 miles from the nearest town. I had promised my dad I would put some of his ashes in that river, so though both have the majority of their ashes in a crypt at Fort Snelling, I had some set aside for the Temperance River. On that rock, I dropped both of their ashes in about 3 feet of flowing water and the river lit up with golden light and stayed that way for the entire time I sat there…about 45 minutes.
A Miracle on the Temperance

Mira is our pick of the litter in a cross between Outlanders Prairie Star, UT I and DC/VC Rugged Edge’s Guns N Roses NA-I, UT-I, MH, VCX. She is a solidly built girl with a medium range in the field and an incredible waterfowl dog with both geese and ducks. She has hunted wild birds in the Rocky Mountain west of Wyoming. Chukars, huns, pheasant, Sharptail grouse and Sage Grouse. She has a knack for figuring out wild birds and how best to get them to the gunner. She achieved a NAVHDA Utility Prize II and we couldn’t be happier. She is what most would refer to as a “meat dog.” In her last UT test, she had 9 birds in the field (typical is 1-3) and brought 2 ducks back in the duck search (typical is 0-1). She is a natural duck search dog and a natural retriever. As our girl at home, she is very quiet and super chill.
Mira earned her NAVHDA Natural Ability award at 7 months with a Prize II. She ran a bit wild on her track after spending days in the truck (I had to judge) or she would have been a Prize I. Mira ran in her NAVHDA Utility test on August 23, 2024 in Montana. As usual, she cleaned up the field with 9 finds and then brought us 2 ducks in her duck search. All of those birds in the field were just too much for complete steadiness, but I could have shot everyone of them!
She is not perfect, nor am I am perfect trainer, but she is a total meat dog and will always help put food on the table. That is a huge complement for any pointing dog. So very proud of Mira, UT PZII!
